Question: How can I determine if the a-squared Anti-Malware background guard is running and working correctly?

Download the harmless EICAR test file http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm and try to start it ("eicar.com"). The a-squared guard blocks the execution of the file with an alert "Eicar test file". Then you can remove the file.
